Củ Chi is a rural area outside Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It is famous for the Cu Chi tunnels, which were constructed during the Vietnam War. Our team will stay at the Les Hameaux de L’Orient in Cu Chi.
For several years, corporate investors, in partnership with college athletic leaders throughout the United States, have raised funds to support a micro-lending enterprise project for profoundly poor women and their families in the rural area of Cu Chi, Vietnam. Under the leadership of now-retired MU Athletic Director Mike Alden and these partners, more than $170,000 has been raised, providing loans for entrepreneurial projects that support sustainable incomes and local economic development. In addition to these small, low–interest loans ranging from $180 to $500, women borrowers also participate in skills training, including managing capital and savings, and professional competencies. Of particular interest for the Cu Chi program has been its holistic approach to family economic and social success. The Cu Chi program provides formal support and training in educational activities for children, reproductive health and birth control, and domestic violence prevention. Over the course of the last two years MU Students and faculty have been working in Cu Chi on Community development projects.
