Gallup Takes on New Responsibilities as Program Coordinator
Great changes in the community.
Great opportunities for students.
Great partnerships between program and campus leaders.
These are the goals of Cara Gallup, former MU Serves Specialist, as she transitions into her new role as Program Coordinator for the MU Office of Service-Learning.
As Program Coordinator, Gallup acts as the liaison between community partners and MU’s campus to implement and coordinate valuable service experiences for students. These experiences may be a part of course-required service or not-for-profit internships.
“I’m very excited to be able to get up from behind the desk and go out and see all of the wonderful work the students and community partners do,” Gallup says. “I’ll now be able to work with them face-to-face while building new programs and opportunities that will make an impact in our community in a different way.”
Gallup comes into the position with a multitude of understanding and knowledge of community partners and their needs, as she has been working in the Office of Service-Learning for over nine years and received the MU Service Champion Award in Dec. 2011.
“With my experience coming into the position, Service-Learning now really has the opportunity to dramatically transform the way service learners and community partners are served,” Gallup says.
Gallup’s coworkers agree.
“I’m excited for the opportunity for a seasoned person to come into this position and make it come alive,” says Kirsten Pape, CLIP internship coordinator.“It’s going to be wonderful for all involved – the office, the campus, community partners, students and more.”
“It’s great to see her in this new role,” says Jason Kinnear, associate director for international programs.“I think she’s going to do a great job connecting with the community and especially the students.”
And Gallup is always prepared to provide for students’ needs.
“If you have a need, contact our office,” she says. “If you’re a student that wants to expand their horizons, learn something new or build your resume, contact me. I’m here as your channel to opportunities.”
Gallup is a Columbia, Mo. native. She attended Rock Bridge High School and graduated with her Associate of Applied Science in Business Office Technology from Moberly Area Community College in 2000. She currently resides in the community with her husband, Travis, and 7-year-old son Masen.
