The Office of Service-Learning supports you and students who are involved in Service-Learning Courses in the following manner:

  • develops community service site placements as based on the class objectives and community needs (visit MU Serves to view agencies we work with);
  • assists faculty in selecting appropriate service placement sites;
  • assists students with locating community service placement sites that are appropriate to the course and based on their interests and skills;
  • contacts community service placement sites with regard to need and setting up student orientation and service requirements;
  • orients students to the service requirements of the course, including completion of the Service-Learning contract;
  • assists faculty in developing in-class reflection for the service-learning component of their class;
  • maintains MU Serves - an online database of community service opportunities for MU students and faculty;
  • maintains throughout the semester a database of service-learning students and their service placement sites;
  • administers mid and final semester evaluations to the service site supervisors and to the students;
  • monitors students' progress and makes necessary recommendations for adjustments to service placement site supervisors or student(s) if required;
  • acts as a liaison between the faculty, community agency/school and students regarding their service placement sites.
