The Minor in Leadership and Public Service combines an academic component of courses in leadership, public policy, ethics, and social issues with a strong focus on service-learning, community service, and public service internships.

Program Goals:

  • To provide a comprehensive and interdisciplinary leadership minor for undergraduates focusing on developing leadership in public and community service.
  • To include, as an integral part of leadership education, a strong emphasis on service-learning and public service internships to complement academic course work.
  • To educate future leaders for our community, state, and nation.
  • To create a direct and positive impact on Missouri communities through undergraduate community and government service.
  • To encourage a lifetime of citizenship and community service among undergraduates, so that an MU education becomes an investment in our social and political future.

A minimum of 15 hours, comprised of the following combination of courses, are required to complete the Minor in Leadership and Public Service.

Required Service-Learning Course (3 credit hours)

Internship, Seminar, or Service-Learning courses (6 credit hours)

Recommended Courses (6 credit hours)

Arts and Sciences Requirements for an Academic Minor:

All Students pursuing a Minor in Leadership and Public Service must adhere to the guidelines for minors in the College of Arts and Sciences.

  1. A&S students may not fulfill the requirements of the minor using courses taken for General Education/Foundation requirements for graduation.
  2. At least 9 credit hours must be in courses other than readings, methods, techniques, or problems.
  3. A minimum of 6 credit hours of the total must be in courses numbered 100/2000 or above.
  4. A minimum of 9 hours of the total must be completed in residence.
  5. A grad of ā€œCā€ or above is required in each course that is part of the minor.
