Honors
College Community Involvement Program
Participate in one of three exciting
HCCIP labs:
All HCCIP sections are designated Writing
Intensive and count toward the Minor
in Leadership and Public Service.
The Honors College Community Involvement
Program (HCCIP) introduces honors and non-honors
students to public service and leadership. The
program encourages our brightest and most energetic students
to use their talents to improve the lives of those around
them. While participating in various community service projects,
students attend an honors seminar, read short essays, write
journals, and work on research projects in which they investigate
social problems and propose solutions. HCCIP explores the
social challenges we all face, and promotes contribution
to the community, problem solving, and leadership. By offering
a variety of community service projects, spanning all ages
and walks of life, we hope that all students will become
involved and express themselves through service. Class requirements
include short readings, quizzes, journal writing, and a
final paper. Students sign up for RSD with Lab. Instructor
for all sections-Dr. Anne-Marie Foley. Credit hours-3.
More you should know about HCCIP:
- All HCCIP classes are offered through the
Honors College, but you do not have to be in
the Honors College to participate.
- HCCIP is open to students with at least
one semester of college credit.
- All HCCIP classes can be used for
"general elective" credit, and, if you are in
the Honors College, you can take them for credit towards
your honors certificate.
Class requirements:
A student enrolled in HCCIP attends a one-hour
lecture on Mondays, and then, one day per week, attends
a one-hour lab specific to the program he/she is in (Youth,
Women's Issues, or Public Health), for a total of 2 hours
per week in class. Also, all students must complete 45 hours
of service by the end of the semester (about 3-5 hours/week).
