Students:
- Register for a service-learning
designated course via MyZou
OR discuss a service-learning option with your faculty.
- Once classes begin, login to your
service-learning class-specific Blackboard.
Register for a Placement Orientation Meeting (55 minutes,
5 offered per day) that has been scheduled for your course,
during the first three weeks of classes. Each faculty
member has pre-arranged certain projects that meet the
curriculum goals of their class. Frequently asked questions
about Service-Learning and approved projects for your
course will be listed. In the Placement Orientation Meeting,
you will discuss your placement options with our Project
Coordinator, Pat Fowler, and ultimately decide where you
would like to serve.
- After attending a Placement Orientation
Meeting and deciding upon a service site, call your service
agency supervisor and ask for an interview to be placed
with their agency. In the interview, be prepared
to ask questions about their mission and services; and
to discuss why this particular agency interests you. At
the end of the interview and/or orientation, if you agree
to a placement project, be sure to have your agency supervisor
complete the on-line contract via MU Serves while you are
present.
- Show up as scheduled at your placement
site and keep track of your hours. Each instructor
will set the minimum number of service hours you will
complete for this assignment. Service-Learning policy
is that you will serve each week that classes are in session,
ending on STOP DAY. Your instructor will have other assignments
including reflection essays and class discussion. You’ll
want to participate in each of those activities as well
as serving at your placement site.
- Keep in touch with the Office
of Service-Learning. Tell us your successes and
challenges, and be certain to complete the end of semester
evaluation of your placement site when we visit your class.
- Log in to the service-learning
specific Blackboard
for your class at least once a week.
We post announcements and the answers to FAQ. This site
will be in addition to your course instructor’s site.
